False Dilemma

A false dilemma (or "either/or" fallacy) frames a situation as having just two options when others are available. "Either we ban the app entirely or we accept total surveillance." In reality there's a spectrum — regulation, limits, oversight — but collapsing it to two extremes pressures you toward one of them.^[1] It's effective because a stark binary feels decisive and urgent. The check is simple: ask whether the two options are really the only ones, or whether a third path has been quietly hidden.
