Genetics
Genetics is the study of heredity — how traits pass from parents to offspring. The information lives in DNA, organized into genes, each of which can come in alternative versions called alleles.[1] Offspring inherit a shuffle of their parents' alleles, occasionally with a fresh mutation. That's the crucial link to evolution: because traits are heritable, whatever natural selection favours in one generation can be passed to the next and accumulate.
